NEW LORIMIER CEMETERY

While participating in the instruction of a two day Ghost Hunting 101 Class with the Adult Education
Department of Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO), PTF Greg Myers & Sandra Oates had the
privilege visiting and conducting an interactive mini-investigation of the New Lorimier Cemetery in
Cape Girardeau, MO with the attendees of the Ghost Hunting Class.

We look forward to being able to return to this haunted  place for a full investigation in hopes of
collecting further evidence to analyze and substantiate this haunting there.




New Lorimier Cemetery was established in 1877 as a private perpetual care cemetery, on the East
Side of the 800 block of Caruthers Avenue . The oldest marked burials date back to the early 1870’s.
It has been divided into seven sections or blocks. There are some 8,800 grave spaces in the
cemetery. The cemetery came under management by the City of Cape Girardeau in or about 1945.
Located in the north part of the Cemetery is a Mausoleum Building that was dedicated December 1,
1917. Two hundred forty crypts are located inside, most of which were purchased prior to its
construction or dedication. The building was deeded to the City of Cape in the 1960’s. All of the
crypts have been sold with a large majority of them occupied

This location was chosen as an interactive investigative location for the SEMO Ghosthunting 101
Class due to recent vandalism at the well known haunted Old Lorimier Cemetery causing it now to
be well lit and locked.  Although while first being disappointed, we soon learned that past
caretakers there have had numerous unexplainable encounters at certain areas within the new one
which included being touched by the unseen, hearing voices and encountering cold spots.  After
spending time there during the night, we can truely say this location did not disappoint us at all!





We were not able to conduct a full "proper" investigation with the time table we had, however we
did have enough time to conduct a mini-investigation with those who attended the class.   Focus
was interactive investigative techniques.




During our mini-investigation we experienced the following:

1. Traveling cold spots.  At one point with several witnesses and EMF interaction, we were able to
track a moving cold spot of 24 degrees Fahrenheit while the ambient outdoor temperate was 50
degrees.  This was a VERY significant unexplainable 26 degree difference and seemed intelligent
as it went around the outside parameter of the group seeming to avoid contact like that of a small
child.

2. Unexplainable EMF spikes which moved about and reached levels near 5 milligauss.

We also note that these seem to be forward and reverse playing EVP's which are unique and many
times associated with a Portal Haunting.

It is the opinion of Paranormal Task Force that even with the two remarkable EVP's or disembodied
voices coupled with the wealth of the unexplainable interaction of something with the EMF meters
and the extreme unexplainable cold spot encounter that there is enough to substantiate an actual
haunting and the existence of paranormal activity at this location.  

However, we still feel that follow up investigation(s) with a full regimen of equipment applying both
passive and interactive investigative techniques should be conducted to further determine the
type and level of haunting occurring at this location through the collection of further evidence and
experiences.  

Shared evidence and experiences of others who have been at this location would also help as well.
