HANNIBAL COMMUNITY THEATRE
HANNIBAL, MO
OCTOBER 30 & 31, 2007

Paranormal Task Force teamed up with Quaid, Drew and Chris of KZZK 105.9 FM "The Grizz"
broadcasting out of Quincy, Illinois and  the Haunted Hannibal Community Theatre located in
Hannibal, MO for an overnight investigation and a live Halloween broadcast.

The Congregational Church was organized in 1859 and the property at the corner of 6th and Lyon
Streets was chosen as the site of a new church. The church was built for a cost of $70,000. Conflicts
arose among the members of the congregation and the building was sold to the Catholic Church in
1880 for a cost of $16,000. The Catholics remodeled the church for their use and it was dedicated on
April 24, 1881 as Immaculate Conception Church.

In the first decade of the 20th Century, the Immaculate Conception Church sponsored a production
modeled after the famous Oberammergau  Passion Play. The program consisted of a combination of
moving pictures, stereopticon slides and a lecture. It was so popular that it was repeated.

On July 26, 1907 a severe windstorm caused considerable damage to the roof of the Church.

In July 1918, the Immaculate Conception Church conducted a dedication ceremony for its 106-star
service flag. The stars were sewn on the flag in the shape of a cross. There were two gold stars, for
Emmett Shields and George Walker. The flag was carried by mothers who had two or more sons at
the front. They were followed by other mothers of men in the service. The pastor, Father Sullivan,
gave a patriotic address. A war service flag “was a banner with a white field surrounded by a wide
red border. A blue star was sewn on the white field for each man in the service; if the man lost his
life the blue star was replaced by a gold star.”

By 1954, the Emmett J. Shields Post of the American Legion bought the building for their use. On
July 4, 1959, the new 49-star flag was flown from the post. By the end of that year Hawaii had
become a state and the post flew the new 50-star flag.

By 1960 a bowling alley was built on the south side of the building and the grand opening was held
in August of 1960.

In 1967, the steeple was removed.

During the last decade of the 20th Century an attempt was made to establish a dinner theater in the
building.

At the dawn of the 21st Century, the Hannibal Community Theatre acquired the building and has
continued to improve the interior of the lower level. It has been used to present quality live
theatrical productions. The exterior of the building is a serious concern. With the help of the
Hannibal Community Foundation and others who are interested in preserving historic buildings, the
Board of Directors of the Hannibal Community Theatre hopes to return this building to some
semblance of its “cathedral-like” glory.

The Theatre has a rich haunted history including people seeing shadow figures frequently, hearing
unexplainable voices or footsteps, sometimes objects will be moved or thrown and people will
even be touched by the unseen  on occasion.

During our overnight investigation with the KZZK crew the full realm of paranormal experiences
occurred.  Various individuals in attendance heard unexplainable footsteps in various areas while
others heard the muffled disembodied voices of a female.   Quick moving shadow figures were
witnessed as well in the large upper floor area where church services were one held.

Investigators were able to follow and interact with moving areas of notable temperature drops
coupled with high electro magnetic field (EMF) readings.  At one point some investigators of
Paranormal Task Force and crew members of "The Grizz" encountered a something human like
which was able to manipulate a very large sheet of hanging plastic in the actor dressing area
insomuch that they could even see the shape of a human hand moving and pushing outward from
it.  While one of the radio station crew members attempted to communicate with the dead, he had
one of his feet become noticeably  and uncomfortably "hot" causing him to cease his attempt and
retreat back to their base broadcasting station on the lower floor.

Multiple Class B and C EVP's were captured throughout the night in various areas of this very
historic and haunted location.

Equipment documented smaller moving areas of notable temperature drops of up to 15 degrees
coupled with high EMF readings a various times throughout the night as well.  These areas were
associated with unexplainable activity witnessed by those in attendance and with many of the
captured EVP's.

Based on our findings, there appears to be unexplainable activity occurring at this location which is
paranormal in nature. Remarkable evidence collected that substantiates such activity includes
audio, data collected from various equipment, and experiences of investigators.

However, further follow up investigations are highly recommended. Such would be very beneficial
and allow the further collection of data and evidence for analysis in hope of determining the
specific haunting nature of this very interesting case.
